4 Course Vegan

19 07 2009

Robbie found this a while ago, when looking for a veg place in Brooklyn to discover. It is super cool. Chef Matteo basically invites people to his loft in Williamsburg (around 12-14 people) and cooks a kick-ass 4 course vegan meal. He’s an awesome vegan chef and has worked at Millenium, an amazing vegan restaurant in San Fran. The cooking is all local and seasonal as well, so he’s certainly doing his part for the environment as well. We decided to go after realizing that in lieu of restaurant week, this would be a more memorable night/experience, and would be way more affordable. Anyway, you call his cell phone to make a reservation,  BYOB (don’t forget the wine), and show up to his loft where you and everyone else shares a communal table, while being fed AMAZING gourmet food. Also, it only costs $40/head. This was the first 4 course meal I’ve ever had- so that was intense. Okay- menu time!

Of Course, we need not forget the wine. We finally broke out the gift I got for Robbie for his last bday, after going to Napa with my family last summer. It was a Beringer 2005 Knight’s Valley Alluvium- a combo of cab sav, merlot, petite verdo, cab fran and malbec. DELISH with this meal…

Overall it was an incredible night- so chill, and it was great meeting and talking to the people we sast with. The group was a huge mix of ages/types, etc. which was great to see and also pretty inspiring- it didn’t matter if people were vegan or not- it was about everyone coming together as a little community for a few hours and sharing some great food, wine, and convo. We’ll definitely be back!!! Thanks Chef Matteo!
